The members of the Dillsburg VFW Auxiliary have announced the winners of the annual Patriots Pen essay contest, which asked students to respond to the question "How are you showing patriotism and support for your country?"
Last Wednesday, the committee selected 6th grader McKenna Womer (pronounced "WOAH-murr") as the FIRST PLACE WINNER and 8th grader Stella Knox as the SECOND PLACE WINNER for this year's contest.
Both McKenna and Stella, their English teachers and families, are invited to read aloud their essays at an upcoming VFW Auxiliary meeting, where they will also be presented with their awards. As the first-place winner, McKenna's essay will additionally be moved on for consideration at the district level AND she is invited to read her essay at the Dillsburg Cemetery at a formal ceremony on Memorial Day.
Well done, McKenna and Stella! You make NMS proud!

Last Thursday our Middle School teachers took on the High School Faculty in a volleyball tournament to raise money for each school’s MiniTHON. Not only did we raise an incredible amount to help kids with cancer, but Northern Middle School teachers (with the help of two elementary teachers) BEAT the high school teachers for the first time ever to claim the championship! Special thanks to all the teachers, staff, students, and fans that came out to support NMS and cheer on a middle school victory! Thanks for your contributions to help those who need it most – THON on, friends!

The theme of this week's NMS News clips is inspired by this past weekend's elementary musical production of Alice in Wonderland.
Two anonymous students share both a Motivational Quote AND a True/False statement for this Tuesday morning:
"The only way to get anywhere is to keep moving." This quote from the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland reminds us that we must forge ahead in order to achieve our goals.
**********
True OR False?
The story Alice in Wonderland was based upon a character whom the author liked.
This is FALSE!
Lewis Carroll's protagonist Alice was inspired by a REAL girl named Alice Liddell, to whom he told the stories prior to writing them down.

Have a great day and please rise for a moment of silence followed by the playing of the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance.
